Renegades – Marissa Meyer (14+)

3.5 stars. In a world where a number of people have developed extraordinary abilities, you’re either a hero or a villain. Nova wants revenge for past wrongs. Adrian wants justice to be upheld.

An entertaining, if not slightly clichéd superhero story. Although I found it a little slow to start, I really enjoyed the witty back-and-forth between the characters and the sweet and subtle romance. And whilst the story did invoke some over-used tropes (child of dead parents wants revenge, for example), Meyer explored some really interesting themes regarding how society works and why it is the way it is. I thought this book was an intriguing start to Meyer’s new series, even though there was no sort of culmination or big revelations to speak of. I’m looking forward to seeing what will be revealed int he second book.

Overall, an enjoyable read, even though I found it a tad slow.
