Another fantastic offering from one of the present day greats: David Almond, with brilliant illustrations by the epically talented Alex T Smith.
Honestly, I can’t get enough of David Almond. He takes huge topics and manages to create beautiful and accessible stories around these difficult subjects. Whilst “Angelino Brown” works well for independent readers, it is a perfect read-aloud book for a classroom setting. This Pinoccio-esqu story has a sense of lightness and of hope beyond any of Almond’s body of work, and yet his signature pathos is still evident in his less likeable characters.
Highly recommend to boys and girls alike, and any fans of Roald Dahl. Those who have previously read any David Almond works will automatically be drawn to this midget gem.
