I really enjoyed this early middle fiction mystery read. It had just the right character mix, level of suspense and great writing.
Elspeth Hart’s parents were tragically washed away in a flood and she has had to go live with her aunt (Miss Crab) at the Pandora Pants School for Show-offs, where her aunt is the cook. Elspeth is made to help in the kitchen and deal with all the horrible show-offs at the school, in particular her nemesis Tatiana Firensky. But not is all as it seems and Elspeth stumbles onto a mystery that she must solve in order to save all the students.
James Brown’s illustrations add perfectly to the story which is funny, intriguing, has a modern heroine, and a great cliff hanger at the end. A great read for middle grade fans of mystery and adventure.
